1. PARTICLE BOARD
Particleboard or chipboard is made from coarse wood chips rather than MDF. The porous board is not water repellant and tends to swell and warp over time. Wintons Teak does not use chipboard in the construction of its furniture.

2. MDF
Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF) is a form of engineered wood with a water repellent coating, used in various joinery units, from kitchens to bathrooms. At Wintons Teak we always use solid wooden edging for all of our MDF with veneer joinery pieces. MDF has a far higher load-bearing capacity than particleboard.

3. SOLID WOOD
Compared to engineered wood, solid wood has one of the highest load-bearing capacities. However, solid wood is not an ideal material for large and flat surfaces without proper support or joinery techniques. This is because natural wood will always “move” as it shrinks and expands, adapting to the climate.

SOLID COLORS
POLYURETHANE FINISH
At Wintons Teak we use sprayed-on polyurethane finishes for all of our whites. This ensures that the colour is applied evenly and leaves a smooth finish. Most importantly, with quality polyurethane finishes, the furniture does not experience “yellowing”, this happens when the white finish turns yellow over time. It is also water repellant and heat resistant.
COMPOSITE LAMINATE
Some solid colours, such as white are applied using a composite laminate. Depending on the quality of the laminate, it can experience yellowing and can peel when not applied properly.
