A-Grade teak

Product features

• One of the natural properties of teak is its high oil content that allows it withstand weather. As your furniture is left outside, this natural oil rises to the surface and is consequently exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet light. This causes the oil to oxidize and produce a residue that makes the surface become grey. This grey layer of oxidized oil is what is referred to as patina. It is a natural feature of teak to develop patina.

• In the first few weeks of exposure to the weather, the natural oil found in teak does not rise to the surface of the furniture. This means that the surface is exposed to the elements and consequently it dries, making the surface become rough and giving off very fine filament of dead timber cells. This is a natural process and should subside in approximately 3 weeks time.

• Over time, cracks may appear at the end of one of the timber components of your furniture, such as the top of the legs or end of the arms. This is known as ‘end checks’. This occurs because the end surface dries at a faster rate compared to the core component. Thus, the core acts as a restraint to the ends and causes them to crack. Note that this is a normal occurrence for any timber, including teak.

• Wintons Teak A-Grade collection is natural and does not apply colours or finishing products (such as stain or oil) on its surface. As such, it is advisable to remove any unwanted marks such as food stains (grease, red wine, etc.) or body fluids immediately after they come into contact with your furniture. For details on how to remove and treat such stains, please see the care instructions below.

• Over time, the surface of your furniture may develop contours that reflect the grain of the timber. This is similar to a driftwood-like pattern. It is a natural ageing process of any timber, including teak. This does not in any way undermine the integrity or strength of your furniture.

Care Instructions

Before use

•Please be careful not to use sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc.) near the teak surface when removing the cardboard packaging.

•Discolouration may occur on new products. This happens because the timber has not been exposed to ultraviolet light for a long period of time. This is a normal occurrence, and as the product is being used and is exposed to more sunlight, the colour of your teak furniture should even out.

Care

•General care (occasional cleaning) is required to keep your furniture in pristine condition.

•Preserving the original colour of the furniture requires removing the naturally formed patina. In order to remove the grey patina, use a solution of laundry detergent and warm water. Apply the solution to the timber and use a soft-bristled scrubber (such as a kitchen/pot scrubber) to rub in the direction of the wood grain. Repeat the process as necessary.

•The brass and stainless steel joints are exposed to constant movement. As such, it is natural for them to become loose over time. It is essential to regularly check the nuts and bolts and screw them tight as necessary.

Cleaning

•We recommend the use of warm soapy water solution to clean your furniture. Apply the solution to the timber and use a soft-bristled scrubber (such as kitchen/pot scrubber) to rub in the direction of the wood grain. Repeat the process as necessary.

•Detergent solution alone is not enough to remove stubborn stains like red wine or grease. However it is possible to sand your furniture using 150 grit sand paper to remove the stain from the surface.

•Candle wax can be removed using boiling water.

To avoid

•Please do not cover your furniture with plastic or any similar material. This will prevent natural airflow, which will cause the timber to sweat and increase humidity. Mould may appear as a result.

•Do not directly expose teak to extreme hot or cold temperatures, such as a hot saucepan/flame or dry ice. This will leave a mark on the furniture. Always use placemats to protect your furniture.

•It is important to use the furniture as it is intended. It is important not to sit on the arm rests or tabletop, or to pivot on the chairs.

•Do not move your furniture between two extreme temperatures such as from a heated indoor space to the open air in winter. This may cause the timber to shrink/expand and make the joints crack.

Storage

•It is important to store your furniture in a dry place with good air ventilation.

•Do not store your furniture near extreme temperature such as a heater.

Distressed Teak

Product features

• Wintons Teak distressed teak collection is made using the most mature timber. It does not require any maintenance (no oiling). Few imperfections including knots, holes and contours are normal and do not undermine the integrity and the strength of your furniture.

• Wintons Teak may use laminated timber using tongue and groove joinery in some of its distressed teak collection. After some exposure to the outdoors, some hairline gaps may appear in these laminated pieces. This is a normal occurrence and does not in anyway undermine the strength and integrity of your furniture.

• One of the natural properties of teak is its high oil content that allows it to withstand the weather. As your furniture is left outside, this natural oil rises to the surface and is consequently exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet light. This causes the oil to oxidize and produce a residue that makes the surface become grey. This grey layer of oxidized oil is what is referred to as patina. •It is important to store your furniture in a dry place with good air ventilation.

•Do not store your furniture near extreme temperatures such as close to a heater.

Mixed-Grade Teak

Product features

• It is normal for the oil finish to wear off and expose the teak wood underneath, which should become grey overtime. However, it is important to re-oil the exposed timber. For details on how to oil your aged furniture, please see below care instructions.

• The grain density of this material is less than that of A-Grade teak, as such it is normal that the timber grain experiences more movement and consequently makes the surface of your furniture become rough. Note that this does not in any way undermine the integrity and strength of your furniture.

• Over time, cracks may appear at the end of a timber component of your furniture, such as the top of the legs or end of the arms. This is known as ‘end checks’. Care Instructions

Before use

•Please be careful not to use sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc.) near the teak surface when removing from the cardboard packaging.

Care

•As our Mixed-Grade teak does not contain oil density that’s as high as pure A-Grade teak, it is essential that the product is re-oiled (with teak oil or outdoor timber oil) at least once a year. Please make sure the surface is clean and dry before applying the oil.

•Preserving the original colour of the furniture requires removing the naturally formed patina. In order to remove the grey patina, use a solution of laundry detergent and warm water. Apply the solution to the timber and use a soft-bristled scrubber (such as kitchen/pot scrubber) to rub in the direction of the wood grain. Repeat the process as necessary.

•The brass and stainless steel joints are exposed to constant movement. As such, it natural for them to become loose over time. It is essential to regularly check the nuts and bolts and screw them tight as necessary.

Cleaning

•We recommend the use of warm soapy water solution whenever cleaning your furniture. Apply the solution on the timber and use a soft-bristled scrubber (such as kitchen/pot scrubber) to rub in the direction of the wood grain. Repeat the process as necessary.

•It is possible for red wine, fat and grease to penetrate the surface as the protective coating wears off over time. In such case, the stains cannot be removed by detergent solution; however it is possible to sand the surface of your furniture using 150 grit sand paper to remove the stain from the surface. However, well-maintained furniture that is regularly oiled will prevent such stains.

Storage

•It is important to store your furniture in a dry place with good ventilation.

•Do not store your furniture near extreme temperatures, such as a next to a heater.

Aluminium Frames

Product features

• By Nature, aluminium does not rust. This is because when exposed to air it will develop a microscopic layer of oxide on its surface, which protects the metal from rusting and corrosion.

• The exposed aluminium material used by Wintons Teak is powder coated. Powder coating finishes offer excellent adhesion and protection, and if properly maintained will last several times longer than standard aluminium materials.

• Note that sometimes dirt/metal particles may be trapped inside the structure of your furniture. This does not in any way undermine the strength or integrity of your furniture.

Care Instructions

Before use

• Please be careful not to use sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc.) near the aluminium surface when removing from the cardboard packaging.

Care

•General care (periodic cleaning) is required to keep your furniture in pristine condition.

•The brass and stainless steel joints are exposed to constant movement. As such, it natural for them to become loose over time. It is essential to regularly check the nuts and bolts and screw them tight as necessary.

Cleaning

•Periodic cleaning of Aluminium frames is highly recommended. Simply wash the surface with mild soapy solution using a soft-bristled scrubber and rinse thoroughly. Please do not use any kind of wax, abrasive materials or strong detergents on power-coated surfaces.

•It is important to use the furniture as it is intended. This means that it is important not to sit on the arm rests or tabletop, or pivot on the chairs.

Storage

•It is important to store your furniture in a dry place with good ventilation.

•Do not store your furniture near extreme temperatures, such as next to a heater.

Sling Materials by Batyline®

Product features

• Wintons Teak uses composite fabrics manufactured by Batyline® which offer great colours, lasting tension and superior strength.

• Batyline® fabrics offer excellent resistance to mould and dirt, making our furniture easy to maintain.

• Batyline® fabrics are eco-designed with surface treatment, making the fabric 100% recyclable and UV resistant. The UV protection also helps it to maintain its original colour.

Care Instructions

Before use

•Please be careful not to use sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc.) near the Batyline® mesh when removing from the cardboard packaging.

Care

•General care (occasional cleaning) is required to keep your furniture in pristine condition.

•Although Batyline® fabric offers high tension, it is possible for the fabric to become less yielding over time. In such case, we recommend the sling be replaced by any Wintons Teak outlet.

•The brass and stainless steel joints are exposed to constant movement. As such, it natural for them to become loose overtime. It is essential to regularly check the nuts and bolts and screw them tight as necessary.

Cleaning

•Occasional cleaning of Batyline® mesh is highly recommended. To do this, simply rinse the surface with a garden hose. For more difficult stains, clean the surface with a mild soapy solution using a soft bristled-scrubber and rinse thoroughly. Please do not use any kind of wax, abrasive materials or solvent as it may cause the Batyline® mesh to discolour and become brittle.

•Red wine, oil and grease marks can be removed by quickly pouring water over the area and cleaning with a cloth.

To avoid

•Do not use foaming cleaner to clean Batyline® fabrics as foam can be trapped between the gaps in the weaving. This attracts dirt which is difficult to remove.

•Do not directly expose the furniture to extreme hot or cold temperatures, such as a hot saucepan/flame or dry ice, as it will cause the product to melt or become brittle. This will leave a permanent mark or may cause the fibre to break.

Stainless Steel Frames

Product features

• Stainless steel is a ferrous alloy, which offers increased protection from elements through the addition of chrome and nickel. Wintons Teak uses grade-304 stainless steel, which is higher than the 301-grade used in most outdoor furniture.

• Though the 304-grade stainless steel we use is highly resistant to corrosion, it is possible for it to develop tea stains (discolouration) due to certain environmental conditions. This does not undermine the strength of your furniture. Wintons Teak recommends cleaning such build up immediately with a metal polisher solution.

• With proper care, stainless steel will maintain its lustre and appearance indefinitely.

• Note that sometimes dirt/metal particles may be trapped inside the structure of your furniture. This does not in any way undermine the strength or integrity of your furniture.

Care Instructions

Before use

•Please be careful not to use sharp objects (knives, scissors, etc.) near the surface of the furniture when removing from the cardboard packaging.

Care

•General care (occasional cleaning) is required to keep your furniture in pristine condition. Any tea stains (discolouration) should be removed as soon as they appear.

•The brass and stainless steel joints are exposed to constant movement. As such, it natural rom them to become loose overtime. It is essential to regularly check the nuts and bolts and screw them tight as necessary.

Cleaning

•Periodic cleaning of stainless steel frames is highly recommended. Tea stains can be removed using a metal polisher solution.

•Stubborn stains and scuff marks can be removed using a light abrasive such as steel wool. Gently scrub the surface using the steel wool to rub in the direction of the brushed finish on the stainless steel. Repeat this process as necessary and finish with a stainless steel polish.

•Red wine, oil and grease marks can be removed by simply wiping the surface using a damp cloth.

•Candle wax can be removed using boiling water.

To avoid

•It is important to use the furniture as it is intended. This means that it is important not to sit on the arm rests or tabletop, or pivot on the chairs.

Storage

•It is important to store your furniture in a dry place with good ventilation.

•Do not store your furniture near extreme temperatures, such as a next to a heater.

Synthetic Rattan

Product features

• The synthetic rattan furniture in our collection is hand-woven using synthetic fibre made from extruded High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The synthetic fibre is recyclable, tear and UV radiation resistant which makes it ideal for outdoor furniture.

• The materials perform best in temperatures between 70-80°C. In very cold temperatures, the material may stiffen, while in very hot temperatures, it may become more elastic. It will always revert back to its original form when the temperature stabilises

• Other than routine cleaning, synthetic rattan furniture is maintenance free and doesn’t attract mould

• Note that sometimes dirt/metal particles may be trapped inside the structure of your furniture. This does not in anyway undermine the strength or integrity of your furniture.
